TONIGHT @Columbia: Un-euphemizing Palestine

A poetry reading and discussion hosted by award-winning writer Noor Elashi. With journalist Nora Barrows-Friedman an dpoetry performances by Ismail Khalidi, Tahani Salah, and Dina Omar – the ideas was inspired by a quote from Arundhati Roy’s new book, Walking with the Comrades. She writes: “the profound unfathomable thing we have lost. As a writer, a fiction writer, I wonder whether the attempt to always be precise, to try and get it all factually right somehow reduces the epic …scale of what is really going on. Does it eventually mask a larger truth? I worry that I am allowing myself to be railroaded into offering prosaic factual precision when maybe what we need is a feral howl or the transformative power and real precision of poetry.” Free Grape-leaves (in honor of Abu Ghassan) and Debka!

When: 8:00-10:00pm
Where: Room 403, International Affairs Building, 420 West 118th Street
